Canine Bartonellosis is a disease caused by the bacterium Bartonella spp. This protozoan attacks the red blood cells in the body, causing anemia. Canine babesiosis is caused by a protozoan parasite that can be carried and transmitted by ticks.

An embedded or engorged tick takes on the color of the dog’s skin and may appear dark red, brown or grey.
